If you are talking about American specific culture we already have none - mass media produced material is not culture. There is very little written in the last 50 years that is worth preserving or that I would want to distribute. And as far as television, Internet, and onwards there is less and less worthwhile. The vast majority of things that are worthy of preserving are at least a hundred years old and not copyrighted anyway. It is interesting to see that so many people want the freedom to use other people's works but when they create their own work that they consider a great accomplishment then want the toughest copyright protection they can get. If you really want a free culture, then you should create your own works that you give away instead of trying to get other people's property for free. That is what I do. And this idea of copyright actually existed because of the print revolution, because it was much easier to copy things, so I think the easier it is to copy things, the greater the penalty will be. This idea that we have access to music instantly and have access to all these libraries of information for free would have required that you be an emperor even a few hundred years ago.
