Linux Admin Jobs in Europe (Germany)
Hi there,
I am currently on a retainer from a large, multinational Telco Enterprise based in Germany that is 90% based on Open Source Software in its infrastructure. The company runs a number of data centers with more than 50.000 servers and is in desperate need of competent administrators, security engineers, network engineers, programmers and other tech related jobs.
The job market in Germany is full of people with Microsoft certificates, but those with Linux knowledge are impossible to find, since the demand is way higher than the supply. The company is willing to hire savvy people from overseas and sponsor the visa application, but finding these people is the problem. All the regular job pages do not offer me any competent geeks that are willing to relocate to Europe.
Question: How do I reach my target audience. i.e. Linux guys willing to go for an adventure in Europe, learn a new language, appreciate a new cultural experience and broaden their knowledge by working for a high tech company?

Your best bet would be to contact local LUGs to find interested people who know their business.

Gutentag!
As Shashan Sharma pointed out, LUGs would probably be a good starting point. And as you may know already, a big part of the IT workforce is imported from India nowadays. I found a listing of LUGs here:
http://www.gnu.org/gnu/gnu-user-groups.html
You can also hire the services of a multilingual recruitment agency, like
www.beeswax.com
(I think it's the biggest of this type)
Posting announces in Universities and attending Job fairs can also help you.
Good luck...
I am personally interested in working for your company. It has always been a dream of mine to work in Germany, where I have some roots, and I do have a good knowledge of linux and networking, which I would like to deepen.
Therefore, I have taken the liberty of promoting myself a bit below:
Strengths :
- Speak German (although not academic german)
- Possess the German Citizenship (no need for work visa)
- Good Linux Administration skills (recompiling the kernel, cron, scripting, runlevels....)
- Good understanding of TCP/IP networking.
- Advanced experience with iptables and tc
- Experience with LAMP and Squid
- Lots of PHP/MySQL develpper experience.
- Some experience on busybox embedded linux
- Fast learner
Weaknesses:
- No degree
- No certifications
- No C/C++ or Assembly Knowledge.
- No experience with mail transfer agents
If you think that I could be of any help to your company, please let me know.
If i'm not the right person, I can also put you in contact with some linux geeks here in Beirut, Lebanon. One of them is really good... but he's currently employed as a project manager (he was my boss). Let me know if you want to get in touch with them, or if you need anything else from me.
I can be reached through this board or at the following email address:
rode (at) dergham.com
Best Regards,
Rolf Dergham.

I don't know if you are still looking for people. I worked as electronics-technician in Germany, and moved into the US. I took 3 years of computer-science coursework here in the US, and worked 5 years as systems-administrator, and 1.5 years as professional programmer for video games. I spend a lot of time with Linux. It's my passion. I am actually considering moving back to Germany if the right opportunity is there.
In any event, if you are interested, send me a message either in German, English or Spanish.
