Hello everybody I am new to Linux and i'm really very keen in OS Development. I actually a student in Mauritius. I would be glad if anyone could answer to my following questions: 1) Does Linux has a GUI? 2) Can Linux be compiled under Windows? 3) Does Linux come with it's own boot loader or it uses GRUB? Linux has a number of GUI's that run under X. The 2 most popular are KDE and Gnome. There is a distribution that runs under Windows called cygwin. What is refered to as Linux is the OS kernel. It is compiled with gcc. To compile it correctly it needs the extensions that come with gcc. More info can be found at www.kernel.org Linux can be started with lilo or grub.
