Re: Mouse buttons
http://wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/Slackware-FAQ#Q.29_How_do_I_set_up_a_wheel_mouse.3F
That has a quick guide to editing the Xorg.conf file to allow for a 7 button mouse (4 buttons, and up, down and click on the mousewheel), and making an .XModmap to get the rest of X to understand the extra buttons (Ignore that it says it's for Slackware, it applies to almost all distros [not sure which if any it doesn't work for] your best bet is to edit the xorg.conf file in /etc/X11/ [If you see the line "Option "Emulate3Buttons" "true"" either delete it, or add a # to the beginning to comment it out.]). You'll have to configure the side buttons to back and forward manually, but this can be done by following these: http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/peripherals-hardware/8599-ms-optical-intellimouse.html instructions.
