Subject : Installation help (Bad EIP Value)
hi Guys My names Dave. i Have tryed to install Ubuntu and Debian on my Acer Travelmate 350TE series(Specific Model-Travelmate 354TE) Laptop and had nothing but problems. Neither work and are just giving me problems. Im new to lynix so i have NFI of how to resolve the issue. im hoping someone can help me. When i Boot up the system from the CD and go to start installing they start and then they stop duing install with the same problem. I have included the last couple of lines of code which are pretty much identical in both insalls. They both say: CODE: Bad EIP value. EIP: [<00000000>] _stext+0x3feffdco/0x3c SS:ESP 0068:c1173f3c <0>Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init! Can any one help me with this problem Kind regards David

Sounds like a hardware issue to me. An IDE controller perhaps, maybe a conflict with the hard disk and CD drive. You might need to troubleshoot your IDE/ATA devices and see if you can locate a problem with one of them.

I saw this on the Ubuntu forums. It's a hardware problem. You should maybe also try the Linux Kernel Mailing List http://lkml.org
