need linux openSUSE help :)
Hello
so i just got linux... now as im all new to this im having problems installing programs such as compiz and avant window navigator.. i found out that i need to do it in the command program but what to write there i have no clue....
allso i have seen u can get a translator or emulator for linux so you are able to run windows games..... the one iv seen is called PlayOnLinux... but is this able to open all games or do i need another Free program??
and how do i install it??
Allso is there a standard way of installing applications and programs like these I would love to learn how to do it so i wont need to find help again :P
Hope some of you are able to answer me...

Wine (winehq.org) is pretty much the thing you'd need to run windows based programs, i believe playonlinux is based on wine, not too sure though...
there is no standard way of installing things, per se. what distribution did you get? Ubuntu, Fedora, OpenSuse?
Most have a manager similar to Add/Remove Programs in Windows. Unlike in Windows, most (if not all) the programs out there is listed in this program and checking the box and hitting apply will automatically download it somewhere and install in your box.
That's the easier way of doing things, less easier is typing it by hand with a special command that pretty much does the same thing and downloading files directly from a website, though the problem there is that distros use different 'installers', *.deb, *.rpm etc etc unlike the standard *.exe in windows.

im using openSUSE.... it could be really cool if there is a program that actually installs these things for me since i have had some problems with the command thingie after finding some "how to" on the web.... at least i got azurues to work if u know that one..... anyways if its easier to help me over msn let me know :) ohh my mistake its not called msn anymore :D :P
YaST aint tthe program u are thinking of is it? cuzz i cant get compiz to work even though i used that
