I'm considering making an Apple boycott site.
Hello, if this is in the wrong section or if I am otherwise being an idiot by posting this here, I apologize.
I'm going to be taking on a project soon, due to my disgust with the Apple corporations business tactics. I'm going to make a website (named something along the lines of "Think Freedom" or "Think Freely" or similar, the name is due to change) that lists reasons for and methods of boycotting the Apple company. The site will also feature descriptions of Linux alternatives to Apple. Any help from the Open Source community will be fully credited and appreciated. What I'd like to get is some reasons to boycott Apple. We all know about how they screw developers, and how they use DRM to control their consumer, how they are anti-competitive, and how they steal from open source developers, I'd like to get specific details and examples of these actions. If you'd like to help, I'll be watching this thread, but I'm also available via e-mail (erikgranger AT gmail.com).
Thank you for any help!

I don't have time to look up the URLs, but I do recall Richard Stallman doing some writing on the subject. You might research into that.

I'm searching for something he says, and it is pretty clear that he thinks OS X is just as bad as Windows. I think it's worse... personally.
If anyone wants to see a preview of the site it is located at http://www.deathdouspartonline.com/apple
Open to all ideas!

It definitely is much worse. Whenever you proprietize BOTH the hardware AND software, and have NO outlet to install the OS on more mainstream hardware even though the OS has the means to... Then you lose cool points with me. I believe that OSX can take over the desktop market easily. But Apple, Like SUN's previous business model will not allow it to come into fruition.

There are actually a few hackintosh iso files on Demonoid... I have too much self-respect to actually use them though.

Apple is basically Microsoft with less money.

You might want to take a look at The Free Software Foundation website: http://www.fsf.org/
Like most of us they are not great fans of anyone who promotes DRM.

My wife loves her Macbook Pro, her iPod, and her iPhone. She also uses a Mac at work at Fermi National Lab. She supports the large-scale Linux clusters that they use in High Energy Physics. Personally, I agree with the "I hate proprietary systems" sentiment, and feel that DRM is suitable ONLY for rental media, and barely then. But then, I still run Windoze XP on my laptop... Something about my consulting business where many of my customers have to have Windoze applications for the user-facing parts of their systems, even though all their servers are running Unix or Linux. Go figure...
