Ubuntu install on HP Compaq nc8000
Hi all, firstly Happy new year!!
I'm having a problem installing ubuntu on my HP Compaq nc8000 - it's got a 40GB hard drive, currently with XP taking up about 22GB. I booted to the ubuntu CD, latest version, and then tried to allocate 10GB for linux. After a couple of mins it just comes up with an error, something like 'Error writing to partition table'. It then goes to what I presume is the manual disk utility, which doesn't give the option to resize my NTFS partition.
Also I have a compaq nc6000, I had the exact same problem on that.
Any ideas?

Will that process recognize the XP installation currently on the hard drive, and copy it into a newly created NTFS partition?

Re: Re: Ubuntu install on HP Compaq nc8000
make your cd the boot drive and restart your computer. then choose the live cd option to make sure everything will work with your computer with no problems ie video card etc. when you found that it did restart again and choose install install linux and one option will to be to install with windows choose that option. so partition your computer for linux first then install windows ok hope that helped
