Hi, I have a acer one with Linpus Linux and it has been realy easy to go online, use usb-stick any anything else. Now I can not go online wireless or with cable, can not use usb-stick or memirystick, can not go in my documents, my files or downloads on the computer. What has happend? Is there anyone who nows and can help me before I lose it?

You need to be more specific with regard to what you were doing last time it was working and what you were doing when it stopped working. Without something to go on, we cannot be much help to you. Much as we would like, our magic wands are somewhat limited in range and scope... :-)

Very interesting as exactly the same thing has happened to my Acer Aspire One. It was working perfectly but now does not recognise anything attached via USB, or my flash drive expansion. When I click my documents, my downloads or my files nothing happens, and it no longer recognises the wireless networks or the webcam. It still boots and opens the games/office documents etc. The last thing I was doing before the fault occured was sucessfully using my 3G USB Broadband dongle via Mobile Partner. The next time I booted up nothing was working properly. The only other recent update was to Firefox 3 a couple of days earlier via the official update page. This had also been working sucessfully. I can return my laptop via my support agreement but if it turns out to be a software problem I have to pay £68, so if anyone has any ideas or anything I can try first I would be very grateful. What was the last thing you did before all that stuff stopped working? Did you install any new packages, or update old ones?

The only recent update (a couple of days earlier) had been the Firefox 3 upgrade. When it went wrong I was using my 3G USB modem to do e-mail/internet stuff. It was working fine when I switched it off, but when I rebooted it a couple of hours later it would not recognise the modem, and I soon realised all of the other things had also stopped working. Sounds very similar to Cath's problem above so would be interesting to know what she had downloaded/used when it happened. Seems such a strange problem but if it has happened more than once there must be a problem. Really all I'd like to find out is whether it is likely to be a hardware or software problem so that I don't end up having to pay about 1/3 of the purchase price to fix something I could perhaps have solved myself.

My problems started almost as Pamelas. I was working on my USB-stick and closed it down, and the next time I opened the computer I had the problem. I have not downloaded anything recently and the only thing I have downloade is Skype and that was in september.

The only common thing I see between your 2 girls posts is USB stopped working. I have read this on that issue. This was stated in a Acer Aspire 1 using Windows XP forum though. It might apply to you girls, because of the static discharge statement. I don't own one of these laptops, although my area is now selling the 160 gig model for $348.00. So I am not a expert with these and Linpus. Quote: if there are no exclamation marks then your usb ports could be faulty/dead, caused maybe static charge. i had one laptop where my usb ports died because of static discharge.

I've decided to send mine back to Acer for service so I'll update this post if/when I find out anything.

Well they fixed it under guarantee and it didn't cost me any money so I'm happy. They reset the BIOS, did reflash and recovery and everything is now working again. Still not sure why it happened but just hoping it will be OK from now on.
