Subject: Replacement for MSN live messenger for Linux...
Hi, I am looking for a replacement for MSN LIVE MESSENGER, but for Linux, that supports video and audio chat. I want to be able to chat with my girlfriend from my linux, and not to have to go do windoze everytime she wants to chat with me. We study in different cities, and she only knows and wants to use windoze. If anyone has any suggestion, please, help. Love is at question here :) Thanx!

I googled and yahooed for a week! I have already tried aMSN on Ubuntu, but could not start voice nor video call. some plugins were missing, and I could not find them. There are a bunch of forums all over the net about the same problem. People from Linux community are trying to chat with their friends that use Windows and MSN or WLM accounts. And, unfortunately, there is still no suitable IM program for our Linux that can provide such service. There are Gizmo, Qnext, aMSN, Miranda IM, i even heard gaim is forking project gaim-vv, but still, I tried them all, they do not work. If anyone find a solution, please post it. Thank You!!!

well aMSN works for me on openSuse 10.3. try searching for qnext on google and download it. the best thing is that it is compatible with googletalk, msn, yahoo, aim and jabbber. also it works on all linux systems ie what they claim.

Hi. First post here... I'm personally using Mandriva 2008.0 at this time (which IMHO actually is the best distro). I used (and still use in some of my machines in my office) Ubuntu and openSuSE. aMSN works great in all 3 distributions (audio and video) For Ubuntu, chech this thread... http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=297676 For openSuSE, use the sottware search page and then install it with autoYasT http://packages.opensuse-community.org/ , use aMSN 0.97 (this is the latest version and it will install all dependencies) For Mandriva 2008.0 and 2007 just add all the plf repos (you can use easyurpmi for this), and everything should work out of the box. BUT there is also another one that works just great with audio and video which I used some time ago about 3 moths) and it is called Mercury Messenger, and here is the link: http://www.mercury.im/ I hope this can help you or other newcomer Kind Regards Luis
