Since you are a software developer, needless to say, you'd want to write code on the Linux platform as well, right?. What programming languages do you know? Frankly, it's impossible for any of us to advise you on your career path since we don't know what you'd like to do. "To build a career around Linux" isn't helpful enough. Do you want to code in Perl, Python, PHP, etc? Do you want to work on MySQL or PostgreSQL databases? What is you field of interest and expertise?
