Subject: linux for laptops
can any one suggest the best download for sony vaio laptop vgn-fs790b. i plan to use it for gaming and music, also using firefox?

Sony Vaios aren't as easy to set up as are Thinkpads. It depends if you are a new or experienced user of linux. A new user might like to try Mepis, PCLinuxOS, Ubuntu. More experienced users might look to Sidux, Arch, Dreamlinux. This is from my own experience, and I bet everyone here has their favorites. I usually read through distrowatch, and when I see a distro that interests me, I'll download the iso and give it a live try. The only way you'll find out which distro works best, is to try them. hope this helped. Tom

I've had mucho luck installing Ubuntu, Kubuntu and Edubuntu on Vaios. Try one of those.
