                    <div style="clear: left;">
                        Hello Karl,
    I had a similar problem for 4-5 months of not having any sound in Linux, because I couldn't get the
XFI sound card drivers from Creative's website running. Just recently I decided to check on the OSS progress in their development of a driver for my card, and I came up lucky.
    Here's a link to the main webpage I checked: http://opensource.creative.com/soundcard.html
    And here's a link to the drivers themselves: http://www.opensound.com/download.cgi

    I installed these on Debian. I'm not familiar with Mandriva, but hopefully you can get it up and running. I'd recommend checking around for an rpm installer, deb installer, or using the .tar.bz2 package, since I don't see a Mandriva listing there. Also - My soundcard is a XFI XtremeMusic, which isn't an onboard
card, but hopefully that won't be an issue.
    One thing I noticed with these drivers, is a pause when loading/switching between music files, but they're not finished yet, and I'm happy with the sound quality I get.
    Also, alot of my gnome desktop sound related tools don't work with these drivers, I'm not sure how to
configure them right, but you might get a similar outcome. The PDF that is available on the download page has a list of tools you can use to modify settings and stuff, also - programs like XMMS work fine for me.

Good luck,
Pinto

                        thanks alot for the reply pinto , good stuff .

in the mean time to that post , i went down to my local electronic recycling centre and obtained a pci sound card . a creative 5.1 live . stuck it in and disabled the onboard for the time been and its working :-)

just have to troubleshoot skype, but not worried about that as of yet.

I DID GO TO THE CREATIVE WEBSITE THOUGH AND GAVE THEM A PIECE OF MY MIND - if anyone else is having this problem be sure to them ( creative ) know about it :-(

thanks for the reply
