Subject: New Software Application -Surveillance
Hi! I am a complete newbie! 100%. I am here for 2 reasons. One is to learn about the Linux OS and, Two, I am looking to have a software developed. I'll just address the latter in this section. I am no a programmer/developer (of any type). The questions I will ask at the bottom will clearly showcase that. I apologize in advance if I posted in the wrong section. I'm seeking to get a software application for surveillance developed. I am very pleased with the one I use on the Windows OS, but I want to switch over to Linux (Fedora?). The application uses H.264 video compression technology (hardware compression) via a DVR pci card. I like the features of the software, but would like to add a couple more and make it look better. As I search for a developer: - Where would be good places to find'em? - What language or knowledge skills should they have? - Is their anything I should be weary of? - What surveillance software already exists for Linux? Thanks in advance for your responses

Marcolo, what application do you use in Windows? Usually, the best bet to finding a Linux alternative is to search for "application name linux" using your favorite search engine. To find some programmers, I suggest you contact your local LUG (Linux User Group). They can help you get the right people. Here is what is already available for Linux: http://www.zoneminder.com/ http://www.silicontao.com/software/lvs/doc/information.html Cheers!
