Subject: Sound problems
Hi,
I'm new to linux and have just installed Ubuntu 8.04 on my pc. Already I prefer it to micro$$$$ XP but I am unable to hear sound when I watch vids on youtube. My browser is Firefox 3 Beta 5.
Looking through the posts on this forum I believe this is a common problem which can be resolved by changing some code. I have tried some of the suggestions posted but I still have no sound (must be doing it wrong eh). I have no real experience changing code etc so would anyone be kind enough to post idiot-proof instructions on how I rectify the problem. I know how to open the "Terminal", but thats about it.
In anticipation thanks.

Sound works in other applications just fine tho right?
I've had this problem when using ALSA in gentoo, so maybe this will work in Ubuntu as well.
Alsa *should* install a script called 'aoss' try opening up a terminal and launching firefox with the aoss script with: aoss firefox
or on my machine yours may be the same: aoss firefox-bin
if that works change your shortcut to launch it the same way.

I opened up the Terminal and typed: aoss firefox - firefox launched but still no sound on YouTube.
When I tried: aoss firefox-bin the reply (on terminal) was:
exec: 13: firefox-bin: not found
I'm not sure about what I'm doing (but want to learn).
I'm probably doing it wrong, if not any ideas?
