Subject: Fedora or CentOS?
I'm a Wintel Sys Admin who is looking to further my Linux knowledge by running a server at home. I have been tinkering with Linux since 98(Debian, RH, Slackware) but in the overall scheme I am still a novice. I'm looking to focus on something similar to RHEL. What would you recommend? Thanks, DC

If you'd like to focus on something similar to RHEL, then Fedora is your best bet. I haven't tried Fedora 9 yet; there seem to be a few bugs but the overall reports have been positive. Fedora 8, however, is very stable and quite nice.

If you are looking to get into the Linux Field you should get CentOS 5 which is the exact same thing as RedHat Enterprise 5 and it is free. For your laptop you should get Fedora 9. Fedora 9 is bleeding edge.. You should also get accustomed to other distro's of Linux not just RPM based distros. For instance the ever popular Ubuntu or Linux Mint... Most of those distributions have LiveCD's which you can run before you install... You can check out Ubuntu/Mint Install Screenshots here http://www.linuxdynasty.org/Table/Linux-Distros/ http://linuxdynasty.org Where IT pros come and share their knowledge..\
