1) DHCP Stands for "Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol". Basically it's a way for the computer to get an IP address automatically. Let me explain; When your computer tries to connect to the network it will send out a packet (a broadcast packet) which essentially says "Hello, I'm new on the network and I'd like an IP please". The router picks up this message and replies saying "Hello, I'm the router for this network, this is the IP I'd like you to use, these are the DNS (Domain Name Server - they change www.google.com into 66.249.93.99 for the computer to use) addresses, this is how you get to the internet, and this is how long you can have the IP for before you ask me again". Simply put, DHCP takes care of getting you an IP address and relevant information so you can connect to the network / internet. 2) Can you be a bit more specific here ? a right is generally defined as something that the user should always be able to access i.e. the home directory (say /home/penguin for me) whereas user permissions are (normally) defined on a per-file / per-directory basis. Number 2 there is very general, so may not apply to what you're asking; if you can be a bit more specific I'll try and give a more specific answer. Let me know if that clears things up at all, if not let me know and I'll try and be a bit clearer. Penguin
