Hi! I hope I am posting this in the corect place. I wasn't sure whether it would be best here, the "Distributions" forums, or even "Applications"..

I am a visually impaired computer user, who would like to try switching over to Linux. I am not very computer savvy, but I get around well enough. I suppose I would need help from friends or family doing the actual installation, but I can do the research myself.

I do no know if such a switch is even possible.. Any other blind individual I have met uses Windows. but it is worth a shot. And with that, I have a few questions.

What, if any, distrubution would be best for accessibilty? I am hoping to find a 'live CD' one that can be installed on the hard drive.

On Windows, I use ZoomText Magnifier/Screen Reader... iMind, I use it in part because I am stubborn. I have been told numerous times I should switch to Jaws, as I primarily use the screen reading abilities in ZoomText. However, I like having both magnification and voice. Are there any programs like this available for Linux? If it were neccessary, do you think I could use Wine to access ZoomText on a Linux OS? Would it still have the same level of functionality?

Any other comments, help, or advise you might be able to provide would be greatly appreciated! Thanks. :)

Hmm... I don't know about the software part, but Ubuntu would probably be the way to go. Since It says right in their Philosophy that they support disabilities.

Ubuntu is a very easy distro to install plus it has a very large community.

Before you install Ubuntu read the documentation, and make sure that you read this https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/switching/installing-partitioning.html
