Ubuntu 8.04.Ubuntu lacks codecs for dvd play back
Erm, it does have the codecs... If you follow the link below to some instructions, it'll have you setup with DVD, MP3, OGG, WMA, Quicktime, and some more... https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats Hope this helps. Penguin you are right ,but Totem is the default movie player. Being new to open source. TO funtion like XP.? would I be better to install UBUNTU STUDIO,OR PURCHASE A LINUX SOFTWARE.Like many PC users We just do not have the know how to edit grub, configure wine ,and so on.I think wubi for Ubuntu is the greatest acheivement since icecream but .WINDOWS USERS ARE LOST .WE JUST ARE NOT EDUCATED,IN SOFTWARE SCIENCE.Windows ,I believe are going to make some big changes.Vista is a big problem if you like to do upgrades on your pc, changing your processor from 65nm to 45nm because of DRM .Wiping hardrives and dealing with EULA. Asking permission constantly etc.I heard that windows is going to stop purducing xp, if this true . EVERY WINDOWS SYSTEM WILL NEED AN UPGRADE .This will cost billions.PLUS security related issues.I want to learn and help at the same time.To creat A XP look a like downloadible software.I think that Open Source is great.Maybe the computer World biggest unknown FRIEND.PS just a thought if all the distros worked as ONE BIG TEAM maybe the ball would be carried to the goal before MR BILL. I believe this the common view of the windows user. THANKS [Modified by: payton on July 04, 2008 03:43 PM] [Modified by: payton on July 04, 2008 03:45 PM]

Theres a good comparsion of audio and video playing software on wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_media_players Mplayer(vid) and Aqualing(aud) do the job for me. Just do search in synaptic on Mplayer and youll get all you need including win32 codecs as well. Besides I would extremely recommend you to read this slowly and carefully: http://linux.oneandoneis2.org/LNW.htm
