Well, I'm using xfce4 (Debian Etch), I need change and the effect on the task bar, for new items, including new instant messages, leaving flashing or something until I click on it ... is possible? Is a effect similar to windows task bar... Thanks

What IM client do you use? Look through its preferences and you'll find a new IM notification or something like that. You can configure it to flash, pop-up, or maybe even play a sound.
