[color=blue][color=blue][color=blue]Hi, I am having a machine with follwing configurations: RAM - 256mb Processor - Pentium 3, 667 Mhz HDD - I have 2 HDDs, 10 GB and 40 GB I want to start as a beginner, which version will be best for me to run on my PC.[/color]

Your hardware resources are pretty small, so I'd recommend you go with one of the smaller distros; Xubuntu, Damn Small Linux, Puppy Linux, etc.

If it ain't broke, you aren't trying hard enough.

I've heard Xubuntu works with 128mb of RAM, and Ubuntu is very popular. I would browse the site and see what you can find. Your hardware is very limited, it looks like you are using an old computer.
