Subject: GRUB is the only screen I get...
I start my box and the only screen I get is GRUB. No login, no start up with the services showing ok, nothing...just right to GRUB. I have never seen this before nor have I ever dealt with this... I had just done an upgrade from F7 to F9 and it all seemed to go smooth. Except I could not get GUI. It was determined that my older video card was not supported with F9 so I installed a newer supported card. I may put in the older card to see what happen...at least with the older card I could run command. Any ideas and how I work with GRUB. I am not familiar with it so while I am not a wiz with Linux I can work my way around other OSes - I can learn fast. Looking for some help.

How did you upgrade? Did you follow the upgrade option or do a full install of F9? It seems unlikely that F9 does not support your older video card, so I don't think that's the problem. Can you run F9 with a live CD?

I do not have a live CD, that would be nice-I tried to order a free one but the forms were shut down. I do not have a burner so I did the 'upgrade', not full install, online. The card may be supported but the livna info to write to the xorg.conf does not work since geforce has not released support. (I think) here is the link-- http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=113974 What should I do about the GRUB?

Hmmm, given that your F7 worked just fine, if at all possible I would suggest doing a full install rather than trying to patch this. I suspect that you will discover other errors even if you got your video up and running. The F9 media distribution probably will start up again soon. But do you have a DVD player on the machine? If yes, I can always try to send you a F8 or F9 DVD. For anyone else reading, why does Fedora control its media distribution like this? Is it a matter of funds?

I do have a dvd rom...if you think you could get me a f9 copy I would gladly reimburse you for cost of the media, postage and your time in handling. I think I am running into a wall here and believe you are correct in just installing fresh. I was hoping to save my files, but even if I did save them I would not know how to migrate them. Thanks

Can you get into grub editor (the E key) ? or the command line ( C key) ? you can manually boot into the correct kernel with a few commands. this may not suite your environment, but examples : root (hd0,0) (this will require some tweaking, hd0,0 is 1 hdd, 1 partition, assuming thats where your /boot/ directory resides. ) kernel /boot/<tab> (tab should list the contents of /boot/ ) or google grub and folow allong.

Camel, if you'd like a DVD, send me a message off-forum.
