First we need to know if the kernel already sees the wifi adapter or not. Unplug the adapter, wait a few seconds and plug it back in. Then as root type 'dmesg' into a console window and paste us the last 100 or so lines. Also as root again, in the console type 'iwconfig' and paste that to us as well.
