Subject: Using Fedora 7 x64...
All,
I was a happy fedora 7 user, everything worked perfectly, I never had any problems with my system. I have a workstation using an Intel 975DXBX2 MB with RAID 1.
However, when I upgraded to Fedora 8 the Network Manager started getting flaky, losing the settings &/or the service would have to be restarted everytime I booted my machine, even though it was supposed to start automatically.
Now with fedora 9 not only is the Network Manager still flaky, the Package Management feature has been totally changed and is difficult/impossible/buggy to use. I am frustrated because fedora 7 did absolutely everything I asked of it and more. Now fedora.org hands me an OS which is buggy and unstable.
I would like to keep using Fedora 7, but it is unsupported. Would it be too risky to keep using Fedora 7 while I wait for Fedora.org to fix their OS? I am reluctant to do this.
Please advise.

How did you upgrade? Did you upgrade your installed version, or did you do a clean install? This really makes a difference (I always recommend a clean install). And what is your hardware like?
I have been using Fedora 8, 64-bit, on 2 different machines since it's release, and I've had absolutely no problems.

I peformed a clean install when I upgraded to Fedora 8. I did the same when I tried out Fedora 9. I think that the problems which i have had with the network manager are due to the Intel MB, I have had driver issues with it in the past. But I still can't get over the changes to the Package Management system they has been introduced in Fedora 9. It is a huge step backwards. See:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/PackageKitFaq
I wish that they allowed Users to re-enable the old package mgmt. system while they were still ironing out the details on the new "Package Kit" application.

Hmm, sounds like you should stick with FC 8 for now. I'm not sure what the problem is with Network Manager. Have you tried editing the configuration files manually?
