Subject: Which Linux to install
Hello,
I have a destktop computer currently running Windows ME. I would like to format it, removing Windows, and to install Linux. Could someone advise/help me? Which Linux to choose? And what to do to book & install Linux?
My intention with that computer is just to install Linux, and learn to use it, as well as to install opensource office suite... no Windows stuffs ;-)
What kind of information regarding the computer would you need to assist me?
Thank you in advance for your time & feedback.

You obviously have an older computer. What I recommend to those kind of people is Xubuntu, the Xfce port of Ubuntu. Just visit Ubuntu.com or Xubuntu.com and read about it there. Your specs are good enough, I think, that you won't need to settle with something like Pupply Linux or Dam Small Linux.
Ubuntu is a good choice for people starting out on Linux. Xfce will look a little better than ME, too.
As for your other concerns:
To install it, find a friend who can burn .iso images and have them download it, burn it, and give the CD to you.
Xubuntu comes with AbiWord processor, but a better selection is OpenOffice.org. To get the latest STABLE version, look at these complicated instructions. http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/instructions.html#linux
If you want the beta, which (to me) has presented no problems yet, then use the following EASY guide: http://tombuntu.com/index.php/2008/05/08/test-drive-openoffice-3-beta-in-ubuntu/
Hope Linux works for you! (Almost anything would over ME, haha.)
