I am a student at ITT-Tech and my instructor handed me a cd for ubuntu and said install this. I installed it but I don't know how to get internet working. Can somebody please help me???? I have a motorola 56k modem with the driver disk and when I insert the disk linux says "cant mount the drive" or "insert disk and try again" do I need to do something special or what?

As far as I know, No, you should be already connected if using a land line. In the top right hand of screen should be a icon that looks like a computer terminal. Left click it and it should show your connections. Make sure wired connection is clicked to enable it. You shouldn't need the motorola driver disk to connect. Ubuntu already comes with a driver to connect you using your land line with no special configuration needed. Just plug it in and go.

I looked and it does not say anything about landlines, the icon is there but when I click it all that shows up is Enable Network, Connection information (grayed out), Edit Wireless Network, and About. The modem acts like it does with xp when I dont load the driver. I need the internet because I have to do projects online for school, this is my first year in Computer Engineering and Electronics Technology, if I cant get this going then I am going to be missing a bunch of assignments. So any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Rick

You right clicked it instead of left clicking it.
