Subject: which version of linux should i pick...
my sister just got a really old bad laptop from my moms old work (it was free) it runs windows 2000 right now but we need a password to make it work. we want to install linux, and we want it installed directly to the hard drive can i have some help please on which versoin to pick... (there ARE different versions, arent their?) P.S. i didnt know were to put this thread

Need mre info as to Cpu speed, ram specs, space on hardrive, cdrom or floppy, USB or not, Computer make and model #.

For a Laptop with windows 2000 I would estimate maybe a Pentium II/III with maybe 256M Ram or less and maybe a 10Gb hard disk. For this I would recommend DSL Linux or Puppy Linux, You will be able to browse the internet, chat, play music and run OpenOffice.
