The developers are forcing me to make donation to download Elive. Does anyone know where i can download it for free. Also i think that anyone that wants to charge for a product should just do it instead of forcing a donation.

Further down the page isn't there a pre-release free version that you can download. I believe it is on the r/h side of webpage.

Be wary of this elive product. I downloaded the pre-trial version that they do give you for free and the thing looked nothing like the screenshots on the web-page! It actually was pretty useless too, and I could not figure out how to even browse my hard-drive. It booted with no icons and some ridiculous window system that looked tacky and was not user-friendly. Enlightenment as your WM is similarly dissapointing. Though it promisses to look something like a OSX, it actually gives you a pretty poor product. Really slow too.

Greg- that's a little short sighted, dude. E16-17 does things a little differently, a simple left click on your desktop space reveals what you probably know as a 'start' button and gives you access to all of your OS functions. The little icon at the bottom that looks like a couple of folders is your file manager, and you can browse all of your drives from there. Just because an OS does something differently than you're used to doesn't make it bad, and if it DID work the same as every other OS, what would be the friggin' point of trying it? Jacob - I downloaded for free, but I'm not going to tell you where. I'd like to shout it from the rooftops because calling it a 'donation' and trying to enforce it is total BS, but it looks like these guys are pretty good at shutting down links and mirrors from sites providing the .iso for free. 'Slow servers' that don't really exist and downplaying the dev version to the point where you're terrified to try it are pretty underhanded. Some time on google and a little ingenuity and you can still find a copy. This dude seems kind of sheisty I don't think I'll be 'donating' anything to this distro anytime soon. It's actually kind of a shame, it's a nice distro... but I've been reading forums to gauge the community reaction and there are a lot of people growing openly hostile toward it.

Free is only development version, you donate for stable. On the official website you can read a note:
Why request a donation ? Elive is free and made with pleasure for your pleasure, but free does not mean "no cost" . I spend all my time developing Elive. It is my choice. Your choice is whether or not downloading Elive is worth a donation. I have not put a minimum donation, because I realize that many of you are students with very limited resources. I thank You for showing interest in Elive, and hope to see you in #elive on IRC! You decide the value Elive has for you. What do you obtain ? You maintain the future of Elive and you also receive faster downloads. No Money: If you can't possible to donate for Download Elive, we propose you those solutions: * The better option is to use our invitation codes system * You can try Elive from a development version. Note: For the next stable release, it is planned to allow the download totally free. Instead of pay for the download you should pay just for the installation. This means that the live mode is entirely free and you should pay only if you want to install Elive in your hard disk.
But you can also download Elive from here http://linux.softpedia.com/get/System/Operating-Systems/Linux-Distributions/Elive-3180.shtml

Thanks for stating the obvious, roobal. I'm done with elive, so I'm going to go ahead and share: Just do a torrent search, which will give you the filename of the disc image. Plug that filename into google and you'll find like 10 ftp servers that have it. I wouldn't bother though, after a couple of weeks with it I can safely say that even for free it isn't worth your time. I've been plagued with crashes and little weird hiccups all over the place. Looks nice, but doesn't hold up once you start using any software that wasn't packaged with the CD.
