Subject: help with webcam application
I am currently using SUSE 10.1 version. My laptop has a webcam... wanted to know if I can use it with suse and if yes than what application it requires and whether any drivers or supporting softwares are required... I am a new user of linux so kindly help and explain in a very simple manner... Thank you in advance! Regards

Subject: help with webcam application
Webcam support in Linux is not very good at the moment, because the hardware manufacturers don't release Linux drivers, and they don't release the hardware specs either, so the drivers that exist are mostly reverse engineered. Some webcams work perfectly, some work partially (eg. have no picture control like brightness, contrast, etc, or have bad image quality), but support is improving. Open a terminal (it's called Konsole in KDE) and type this: [code=xml]lsusb[/code] The post the output of the command here.
