Subject: need help with proxy server for internet on my phone
Hi guys, Something recently has sparked my interest. I have not got any responses from any other forums like linuxquestions.org and ubuntuforums.org. I have read about how one can set up a proxy server at their home, and connect to the internet on a cell phone via the proxy server. When I contacted verizon to get the whole email/web/messaging added to my account, I was informed that it would be an additional $24-$44 per month per line (which I have 2 lines, one for me, one for my wife). Since I already pay for internet on my home computer, it does make sense that I could use a proxy server that I set up instead of using verizon wireless' server. I have seen how to change the WAP settings in my phone, but am totally clueless as to how to do the proxy server in my home. Can I do it with a single computer? If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions, please let me know. I have only been using linux since early this year, so I am still fairly new to most of it. Thanks in advance! Garrett Starnes

For the most part, if you receive no answer on a Linux question, folks are either stumped, had not lived through it yet or have not seen the question. I have no answer for your particular situation. Sorry. All I can do is say how my phone is set up. Sprint, 400 minutes, all incoming sent to my home Skype number with alerts. With access free to see the callers name and number. Skype at home, in/out $5 month from computer using a regular phone. Just make sure you have an adapter that MS and Linux can use for regular phone useage. Good luck, and enjoy Linux.
