Probably is the best, if you are looking for a distro as close to Red Hat as possible. The people I know who use Centos seem pretty happy with it. Of course, there are plenty of other alternative distros to Red Hat, if you are willing to expand your horizons a bit. My favorite is Debian. Also depends a bit on what you want your computer to do for you. (Serve web files? Desktop computer?) PerlCoder (http://indicium.us)

Centos is based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux and considering this it is the best alternative as it is free :). Also, Centos is much more stable then Fedora Core and yeah..it is supported much longer.
