Subject: Looking for a good capture/dvr program
Looking for a good capture/dvr program to work with a 4 channel pci capture card. this is for a surviellance system so it will need to have a dvr function as well. Anyone have any suggestions?

Check zoneminder, it is made specifically for surveillance, works great and it is free: http://www.zoneminder.com/ Good luck

I found and downloaded it, then expanded the .tar file. Now here is the noob question. How do I install it if I have it expanded on the desktop? It is not showing up in the list under add/remove.

Ok To tell you the truth, I could not install it the first time too :o) here is a wiki with specific instructons for several distros: http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.php/Contents Also there is a live cd image that you can run and/or install and comes with everything preconfigured, I have been using it and works very well. I tried to install both ways.(iso and repository) I and a friend who is a avid ubuntu user can't figure it out. When installing it from the repository it can't fetch most of the packages. Are there any others out there? I am only needing to capture from 2 cameras at home.
