Subject: PC= Linux / Windows
As you might know, I'm new to Linux OS but not unaware of it. I was to make Linux my main OS but maintain windows OS to be able to log in and use Final Fantasy XI online, Play Online (FFXI). I'm not sure if it's compatible Linux but I'm willing to try installing and running the program. Also, I'm an online student of IADT online and study Graphic design. I need Dream Weaver CS3, my Photoshop CS3 and Illustrator CS3. Will I be able to run it on Linux or should I keep it with Windows partition? What would the performance be like? This is very important to me because I'm constant going on and off line and my XP OS and browsers are continually giving me errors while most of the time I cant even display a web page. What version of Linux would be preferred and how should I go on downloading and installing it to be my main OS if I should drop Windows? Thank you much and hope this is not to tough to resolve.

I would keep a Windows partition and make your computer a dual boot. This way you can ease your way into Linux. As far as a Distro my favorites lately are 1.Ubuntu 2.Mepis 3.Mint I am sure other forum members will chime in with their favorites also.

And if you're truly interested in making Linux your main OS, then you should explore alternatives to your Windows software. I would suggest looking into the Gimp, Inkscape and Quanta.

There is also a program out there for Linux called Wine. It is designed to allow you to run Windows program inside of Linux, although it doesn't work for all programs. Here is a list of some programs it runs: http://appdb.winehq.org/ My favorite Linux distro is Debian. Debian is stable and easy to customize. The packages (programs) in Debian tend to work very well because the repositories go through a lot of testing.
