Subject: Audio problems in Ubuntu
I recently downloaded Ubuntu on my laptop, and although it's a vast improvement over Vista, which on top of being crap required more power than my laptop could give it (soooooo slow), there is one weird issue.
I'm getting extremely low audio, both through the laptops speakers and with headphones when I tried them. I have the volume kicked up to the max, but when I play music or videos, I can barely hear them. When I use Vista, the audio is fine, so I don't think it could be a hardware issue.
Suggestions?

I would try this:
Open up the gnome-terminal.
Type: alsamixer
Make sure the volume is turned up for both the Master and PCM channels.
Exit and type: sudo alsactl store
This will save your volume settings.
