Subject: latitude d600 cannot connect wirelessly
I just installed a stand-alone Ubuntu version 8.10 on my dell latitude d600 and I cannot get wireless connectivity. At first I didn't have a wired connection either, until I went into system bios and enabled it. Is there anyone who can help my resolve this issue?

We need more info. A quick google and it looks like the D600 has the Intel PRO Wireless 2200 chipset, but to be sure, please open a terminal, type "lspci" (without quotes) and post the output here. Assuming that is the chipset, it should work without fuss with Ubuntu 8.10. Can you also type "iwconfig" into a terminal and post the output of that?

Your wireless chipset is here: 02:03.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4309 802.11a/b/g (rev 03) An easy thing to try: http://www.l-exp.com/m/feed/show/278031 Here's a how to: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=405552 And Community Doc for Ubuntu Hardy, but should still be applicable: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx/Hardy

i still can't seem to get it. I have the driver installed and it says that it is active but i am not picking up any wireless networks. Also, I keep hearing about going to system>administration>network to turn roaming on... I dont have 'network' under administration. I have 'network-tools' but that has nothing about roaming in it.

I'm sure most of us have done that once. I got called in to fix a family member's PC and she had the wireless turned off.

"With these live disks, we can do all the things the lab teacher doesn't want us to do!" "Or we could just unplug from the network on bootup so that the "seeing eyes" program doesn't boot up so she can't see what we're doing unless she's physically here"
