how to . i have a topfield with ir serial conection .the info i am looking for is for ubuntu 8.04 not myth.

I'm not familiar with sat boxes, but I know that many of them run Linux, and therefor have to make the source code available. Have you contacted the box manufacturer? If their default OS is not Linux, then what is the CPU architecture of the box?

So, I'm confused. What's the problem? You should be able to install Ubuntu on just about any Intel PC. Here is a link to a forum that is discussing some of these issues: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=307216

Ok, I think my last two gray cells are working now. What you are saying is that you have this set-top box that connects to a PC via a serial IR connection? I assume that the computer that you are using has a serial IR port. Did you check out this link? http://www.lirc.org/ It seems that they have support for the following Topfield devices: PVR 5000 TF4000Fi TF4000PVR I hope this helps.
