Ok new question... My buddy sent me some cds to try out. I am totally new to this Linux stuff, but I really like the DSL distro. My problem is I only have a wireless usb adapter. I was wondering if there is a way I can run DSL on this adapter and if there is I will need Very detailed instuctions on how to configure it cause I know almost nothing about Linux... Thanx for any assistance.

We'd need to know more information about your wireless adapter, ie, brand, model, etc. In general, your two options are to find a linux driver if their is one, or use a windows driver with a program called ndiswrapper. http://damnsmalllinux.org/wiki/index.php/Verified_Wireless_Cards One of the difficulties with DSL is that it uses an old kernel. According to distrowatch, it still uses kernel 2.4.31, whereas the current release is 2.6.8. Newer kernels have vastly improved support for wireless cards.

According to the DSL website I linked to above, your USB might not work.
Linksys WUSB54G v1 + v2 (requires 2.6 kernel and ndiswrapper)
DSL is based on Debian, so you can try this to help with ndiswrapper: http://wiki.debian.org/NdisWrapper http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?t=17719 Also, you might consider switching to a different distro. There are plenty of lightweight options that use more recent kernels. I would consider trying Antix, Arch Linux, Crunchbang Linux, TinyMe, Puppy, or Linux Mint Fluxbox edition. Most probably won't have quite the speed of DSL, though Puppy probably gets close, but they do have a lot more functionality. [Modified by: Reed on January 07, 2009 05:07 PM]
