                    <div>
I have a desktop PC running windows XP where my printer is connected.
I also have a laptop running windows XP and I also have a new notebook which uses linux.

Here is my problem. The Linux notebook is connected to my home network with no problems. I have just set up a printer on my linux notebook (the printer is on the XP desktop machine), when I try to print on the linux notebook nothing happens.

The printing queue on the desktop xp recognises the file but does not print it.
If I then try and print using my other XP machines, they will not print either. It is as if the initial linux file is blocking the print queue.

If I reboot all 3 machines and print from both my XP machines first, they print perfectly. When I then try my Linux notebook again, like before, nothing happens and again the XP machine recognises the file but does not print and now jams the queue.

The linux machine does have the correct driver.
I have deleted the printer on the linux machine and reinstalled it again but achieved the same results.

Any help would be apreciated, it is the first time I have purchased (or used) a linux machine.

Thank you.</div>

One thing I forgot to mention, the printer is a HP PSC 1300 series.

It is an 'all in one' printer scanner copier printer.
When I installed it I nstalled the driver for HP PSC 1300.
There was no option which said 'all in one' although it did say this for some of the other printers. </div>

Being brand new to linux, I do not have a clue what Linux Distro is or how to find out.
I have clicked on both your links above and copied and pasted the results.

I hope this helps.

HP PSC 1300
Color inkjet printer, max. 1200x600 dpi, works Mostly
Recommended driver: hpijs (Home page, view PPD, download PPD)
Generic instructions for: CUPS, LPD, LPRng, PPR, PDQ, no spooler

Add a similar printer

Edited Notes

Very cheap entry level multi-function device. Printer/scanner/copier.

Does not understand PCL as most other DeskJets/PSCs/OfficeJets, it uses the so-called &quot;Lightweight Imaging Device Interface Language&quot; (LIDIL), these printers are supported by the &quot;hpijs&quot; driver beginning from version 1.3. The driver supports resolutions only up to 600 dpi, head alignment settings stored in the printer are not made use of, so use a one-cartridge (CMY) printing mode in case of mis-alignments.

For basic printing functionality use the HPIJS driver . For advanced functionality such as printer status, maintenance features, scanning and photo card unload use the HPLIP driver (which includes HPIJS).

Copying works fine from the front panel.

User Notes

This printer driver works great with the PSC-1350 all in one.
I have on and for some reason it is missing form my printer list the scaner is there
but the printer is missing please hilp

All information provided is believed to be accurate but is not guaranteed.

Notes:

1 Network support indicates built-in ethernet and/or wireless networking. Alternatively, many devices may be operated on the network using an external JetDirect print server. Not all network configurations are supported. Please refer to the HPLIP FAQs for more information.

2 USB mass storage only. You may mount the photocard as a storage drive over USB only. Refer to your distribution's documentation for setup and usage instructions.

3 Scan supported means that PC initiated scan using a SANE compatible software application is supported over parallel, USB, or network (depending on I/O connection). Information on digital sending products is covered in note 9, below.

4 Photo supported means that the printer's photo card slots are readable using either USB mass storage (USB only) or hp-unload (USB, parallel or network).

5 Fax supported means that PC initiated fax send is supported using hp-sendfax, once an appropriate CUPS fax queue is set up. Fax support varies on Linux distributions, based on the availability of python-dbus version 0.80 or greater (versions before 0.80 will not work with HPLIP). Click on the model name of each printer to get more detailed information.

6 Copy supported means that PC initiated copying is supported using hp-makecopies.

7 &quot;Services and status&quot; means that ink/toner levels, error reporting, and services such as alignment, and color calibration are available (via the HP Device Manager aka Toolbox).

8 (&quot;Required&quot;) A downloadable driver plug-in is required for printing support. (&quot;Optional&quot;) A downloadable driver plug-in is optional for printing support and may increase the speed, quality, or other aspect of printed output. (&quot; No&quot;) A driver plug-in is not required nor available. Driver plug-ins are released under a proprietary (non-open) license and are not part of the HPLIP tarball release.

9 Device supports digital sending, not standard scanning protocols. See this KB article for more info.

10 Feature support depends on the specific Linux distribution being used.

...............I have tried downloading the driver directly from the link which you provided just in case I had the wrong one but this did not correct the issue. I get the same results.

Thanks for your assistance. </div>
