Subject: Problem while updating. And how to enter APT source?
Okay I have two problems. First of all, I'm running Xubuntu 8.10. Okay, I was using the Update manager, and mid install I had a problem. It stopped and gave me an error. I opened a terminal and entered [dpkg --configure -a] (without brackets, of course) and I get this line: [dpkg: parse error, in file `/var/lib/dpkg/updates/0150' near line 1: newline in field name `#padding'] I have no idea what this means, what this is associated with, or how to fix it. Also, I am trying to use apt-get to install new software but I seem to be having trouble entering the new sources. I am using the "Software Sources" utility to enter the sources rather than a command line, but I guess I am not entering them correctly. For example, I wanted to install ClamAV, and I chose [mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca], so I entered [deb http://mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca/debian-volatile/ all] Whats wrong with what I typed? Please help! Thanks

Are you using, or have installed, Adept Manager?

No I am not using Adept. And I just noticed another problem. None of my browser functions work except the address bar! Shite, I might just reload the flash drive with a fresh install. Hmm. I didn't have these problems earlier. I'll reinstall and then get back on here. Shouldn't take but 15 mins. brb

Alright, I'm back. New install fixed all my browser problems. Now I am going to attempt the update again. Luckily, tomorrow I am going to see my (cousin-in-law?) who has a degree in computer science and works with linux every day so he can help me.
