Subject: WOULD DUAL BOOT BE BEST?
I haven't tried Linux yet because I pretty much grew up in school on Windows computers and that is what I know my away around best with but I can't put XP on my pc That I got last year for x-mass but I can't take no more of vista I just have way to many issues with programs not responding and lagging. So I am ready to test Linux cause I really don't want to wait for Windows 7 especially when I hear from beta testers that is just a revision of Vista. However since I comfortable with Vista and don't want to get rid of it completely just yet would the dual boot be best for me? could anyone explain how it works and what version would be best for me without getting to much in to the tech side.
Pc Specs:
Gateway M-1617
Amd Dual Turion 64 Processor
Ram 2GB
Hard drive 250
ATI Radeon Graphics

Yep, because you are just at the beginning of learning Linux and Vista will bail you out while you are learning.

I always recommend Ubuntu 8.04 LTS or 8.10 to New Converts. Mepis and Mint and PCLinuxOS are also good for New Users.
Here is a link on how to dual boot with Vista with screenshots.

Another option is to install and run Ubuntu inside of Windows using Wubi.

Make sure you remember the passwords you enter. Most important.
Anyhows, if you have any probs. you van always open your C drive and find Ubuntus folder and just click on the uninstall icon in the folder later when you wish to delete Ubuntu. Its that easy using the Wubi install. Ubuntu will run a little slower than a typical dual boot install. Not so much that you'll notice with your hardware though.

You can install Linux as an application on Vista. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WubiGuide
You can also just download and burn Ubuntu. It is a live CD, meaning it will boot off the CD and not make any changes to your computer. You may need to change BIOS to boot from CD before hard disk.

You can also order the Live CD !
I ordered it and got it within 10 days, it's completely free!
I really recommend it,
so if your dvd burning program makes a little fault it could ruin your installation ( yea, it happened to me ;))
Then you can try it without it touches your hard-drive!
It's just boots from the Live CD
then you can choose for a dualboot (i've two computers with ubuntu and vista/xp dualbooted succesfully ) or install it completely.
Good luck and hopefully you like the linux (ubuntu) community!
any questions? ask !

Or, you can just download the ISO image and burn it to disc! Depending upon your internet speed, the Live CD should take anywhere from 15 minutes to a couple of hours to download, then another 5-10 minutes to burn to a blank disc. Voila! Of course, presuming that a 10 day wait is OK, free is cheaper than a 50c disc... :-)

Sometimes real fast is almost as good as real time.
