Subject: floppy-bootable/internet-download/install linux distro??
Hello again, I can't seem to get any linux installed on my laptop unless it can boot from floppy and install via USB or USB CD-ROM drive. Have tried DSL and Puppy, but need more.....have Toshiba Portege 7000ct w/ 160MB RAM, 4GB HD, no cd drive, floppy, one usb port.
I need to know of linux distro's that can boot from floppy and install from USB/USB CD-ROM/ or via internet install.
Please help...

There are several distros that let you do just that. It would be easier if you could get access to another PC or laptop in wich you could share the cd-rom or hard disk folder over a network. I have done this with Mandriva and here is a page with some instructions, it is for an older version but it is still the same procedure on the new ones.

Good luck!

This is a exerpt from my tutorial on making a stand alone boot floppy.
1.I downloaded sbminst.exe (DOS executable)
cwsdpmi.exe (support file) and formatted a 1.4mb floppy and installed those 2 downloads to floppy. Used the 3.7 column Smart Boot Manager Download http://btmgr.sourceforge.net/download.html
2.1. Restart the PC, boot from the floppy and run:
A:\>sbminst
2. Read the displayed screen for guidance and run the following command:
A:\>sbminst -t us -d 0 [make sure to put a space before -t, us, -d, 0][- is a dash, 0 is a zero]
Enter Y when asked to confirm.
The above command converts the floppy into a standalone boot manager.

This is where you need to go to answer your Pendrive Question.
