If you are totally new, it is more worth your time to read books and implement the examples you find in them. Just looking at the code from other people's projects is a good way to learn also. I recommend going to SourceForge and browsing simple Python projects (like say, this one: [url]http://sourceforge.net/projects/giplet/[/url]).
