                        When you look at downloads for different distros, they usually will identify them with things like x86, i686, x86_64, amd64, or ppc. ppc is the PowerPC architecture used by macs.

                        actually you don't need a ppc version. You can do an x86 version just like everyone else. Mac switched from the fabled ppc processor a few years ago and now you use intel like the rest of us. You could probably actually use 64 bit support as well but I suggest to you to try it out via virtualization first. Check out virtualbox and install that first then install a version of linux under that first. You don't wanna destroy anything for something that may not suit you. And don't listen to the guy before me he isn't up to date on Mac tech.<p class="hiddensignature">
If you don't break it you'll never learn how to fix it.</p>

                        and there is nothing wrong with that. The only reason I know is because I work on them. I've started to boycott them for personal use as well. You would of been right on anything G5, G4, and I think G3 but when they switched they are effectively just another PC manufacturer with their own OS and ridiculous pricing scheme.<p class="hiddensignature">
