Im new to linux like every other person. ive got the live cds down pretty well, but i want to install ubuntu studio. and of course the size of that distro can only be held on a dvd. well i burned ubuntu studio to a dvd (as an image) and when i go to boot it on my computer, the computer acts like the disc isnt even in the drive and proceeds to boot my current OS. what am i doing wrong?

Hi Slapdash,
Did you set your BIOS to boot from dvd rom if not do that then only it can deduct the DVD then it will start booting from it. How you burned your dvd (using what software) use ISO to do that if not done.

actually with 2 year-old BIOS you access BIOS boot options by hit an F key. In my case I hit F9 to access boot options. Then i choose boot from CD drive.

You should download the MD5SUMS file from the same place your downloaded the dvd. Then follow these instructions https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM
This checks the .iso file to make sure it downloaded ok. You could also download the dvd via bittorrent which checks the file automatically.
Then follow these instructions to burn the dvd https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto
Please note that it might be better to burn at a slower speed to avoid problems.
