Subject: KVM switching
I have a KVM switch for switching between my Windows and Unbuntu PCs. However, the hotkey sequence of pressing Scroll Lock twice only works when switching from Windows to Linux - not the other way round.
Strangely, I have plugged another USB keyboard straight into the Linux machine and the Scroll Lock function works fine! The rest of the keyboard functionality works OK so why not the Scroll Lock sequence? Thanks.

I've not experienced this problem. Check your keyboard mapping in Ubuntu. It is possible that the scroll-lock key is being remapped, and not transmitting the key-code correctly to the KVM. FYI, I am using a D-Link 4 port KVM. What are you using?

I have just discovered by accident that a double press of Num Lock works great on both machines. This is not a documented feature but works none the less! Why Num Lock works on Ubuntu but not Scroll Lock is still a mystery!
This is the KVM I'm using:

Well, at least you got something to work! It may be some timing issue with your KVM. I usually use a PS/2 keyboard, and use a PS/2 <--> USB converter when I need to. My favorite keyboard, which I am using right now, is an IBM classic PC-AT keyboard with full tactile (mechanical) feedback. I recently found one unused in the original box at my local white-box builder. These are SO much nicer than the over-soft keyboards one gets these days, and at $15 USD, it was a price I couldn't pass up!
