Subject: Samba on Ubuntu 7.10
Hi, I am having difficulty finding a thread about samba discussion, so I opted to create a new one; I wish to ask how can i access the linux server (from an XP desktop) using samba. I checked the server and the smb daemon is active. I tried creating a samba account but when I tried the account, it seems that it is not working. I checked the smbusers file and it is empty; i tried to update it by putting in <linux username> = "<samba username>" but still the problem persists. Please advise.

Did you read the Ubuntu Community Guide? https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SettingUpSamba : If you continue to have trouble, try posting at www.linuxforums.org/forum . Since linux.com is going through some changes, this forum isn't too well populated. [Modified by: Reed on March 21, 2009 01:37 PM]

Did you add the machine name to samba? use (without quotes) as root "smbpasswd -a -m machinename"
