Subject: bug in update manager, trying to upgrade 7.4 to 7.10
Hello forum folks, I'm fairly new to Linux, running 7.4 on an 6 year old faithful Sony Notebook. I've recently tried to update my system from 7.4 to 7.10, mainly because I want to be able to run Skype, and I need version 7.10 or better to run Medibuntu to run Skype. When running my Update Manager, I was given this report: "Please report this as a bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bugreport." I did a little poking about google, and found that this bug has been reported already, and written about here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/164145 Alas there are no directions in that link, nor anywhere else I can find, that give clear directions about what to do about the bug. If you know of a way I can run Skype without updating my program, I would be open to those suggestions too. Any support offered would be most welcome. I It's a beautiful spring day on the coast of BC, I hope it's nice where ever you are too.

Is doing a clean install to a new version not an option? Even 7.10 is pretty old and support will end for it on April 18th, I believe. I assume this bug has already been fixed in more recent versions. First thing, though, 7.04 is no longer hosted at archive.ubuntu.com - did you change your sources.list to the proper repositories? : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/153980/comments/81 : https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GutsyUpgrades

Thanks Reed. I've been working on backing up my computer to prepare for a new install. Which version do you recommend using for a new install? and if you could point me towards step by step directions, that would be great. I've never done that before on my own. Thanks!
