Subject: TV Set-top boxes..
Hey All, I am working with an early-stage media company that has developed Linux-based software to run on tv set-top boxes. Our potential investors are concerned that a large number of active consumer boxes, regardless of version, use another operating system and would require the software to be rewritten - perhaps numerous times. Does anyone know where I could get a sense for Linux's market share among active set-top boxes? Any help would be greatly appreciated.. thanks in advance! John

I don't know for sure, but some version of Linux is probably the OS for just about all of them. Certainly more than 50%. In the worst case, Linux would only require a recompilation of the source code, with some possible driver differences due to hardware, but that would also be the situation if you were running WinCE.

Sometimes real fast is almost as good as real time. Remember, Google is your friend!
