Subject: Mandriva 2008 Help Please
Hello Everyone I have installed the Mandriva 2008. After installing the software i reboot my computer and it took me to the login screen the i put my user name and password and then it says [myusername@localhost]$ What should i put here [myusername@localhost]$ thanks

Is that a graphical login screen or a console login screen? For some reason, the graphical desktop environment isn't starting up. Try typing "startx" (without quotes). If that works, for some reason your install didn't configure the system to start the desktop interface. If it doesn't, it's probably an issue with your graphics card. I don't think he realizes he's at a console login. It may be better, if he knows what the root password is, to login as root and then do init 5. While he's at it, as his user he should do, with out quotes, "tail ~/.xsession-errors" and see if it did indeed crap out.
