Subject: Slack live distro?
Hey folks!
I'm new here. I've been using Ubuntu for about 2 months now, and I LOVE it!! I am a former Windows user. I'm still slightly dependent on Windows for some things. The big one, is that I'm running an XP pro box for web and email serving. I'd eventually like to get that switched to Linux as well, but I'd like to get more comfortable with it first. (But that's for another thread)
What I'd really like to try is Slack. I've heard a lot of good things about it, and I'd like to try it out... Is there a live distro version of it? If not, do you folks recommend any other good distros to try? Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely BONKERS for Ubuntu and I have no plans on changing that as my main distro, but I do want to dabble in other distros as well :)
Thanks in advance for the advice! Nice to meet you all

I don't know of a Live CD of actual slackware, but there are a number of distros based on it, including Slax, Absolute Linux, Zenwalk, NimbleX, GoblinX, and Wolvix. Slackware itself is not the easiest distro to use. It generally does not have graphical configuration tools, and it's package management does not resolve dependencies, which is probably the biggest irritant to me. There are programs you can add that do resolve dependencies, but it also requires packages to have some metadata built in to function, and I don't believe the official repositories have that.

By the way, this forum is mostly dead until the Linux Foundation does something with it. You may want to post further questions to www.linuxforums.org/forum
